Terms and privacy

By using Uplift you agree to these terms and to how this page says your information is handled. They are written to be read, so please read them.
What Uplift is
Uplift is a wellbeing tool. It helps you notice how you are doing and suggests small things that tend to help. It is not therapy or medical care, it is not a substitute for either, and it does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition.
Uplift is an invite only pilot for adults in the United States. You must be 18 or older to use it.
If you are in crisis
Uplift is not an emergency service and is not watched by anyone. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988, text HOME to 741741, or call 911. These numbers work in the United States only.
When you write a note, an automated check looks for signs of crisis. If it finds them, Uplift shows you those numbers instead of writing anything back, and pauses its reminders for 24 hours. Nobody is alerted and nobody will contact you. The check is automated and can miss things, so never rely on it to get you help.
The AI in Uplift
The lines you see after a check in, and the suggestions Uplift makes, are written by an AI model. It can get things wrong, including misreading how you are doing. Treat what it writes as a gentle prompt, not advice, and use your own judgement about whether a suggestion suits you.
What Uplift collects
- The email address you sign in with, and the invite code you joined with.
- What you tell it about yourself: your first name, what helps you reset, what stresses you, the first names of people you feel close to, your routines and your quiet hours.
- Your check ins: mood, energy, tags and any notes you write.
- The suggestions you were given, what you did with them, and whether they helped.
- Short notes about your patterns that the app writes for itself each week, so it can be more useful to you. They never record what you wrote about a crisis.
- When the safety check flags something: that it did, and when. Never what you wrote.
- Your phone's time zone, and the address your phone gives Uplift for sending you notifications.
- Records of how the app is used, such as that a check in happened or what an AI response cost, used to run and improve Uplift.
Who it is shared with
Uplift relies on a few outside services to run. One hosts the app and stores your account and data, one provides the AI, one sends your login codes, and the company behind your phone or browser delivers notifications. Each receives only what it needs to do its job. The AI service receives your check ins and what you have told Uplift about yourself, so it can check for signs of crisis and write your responses and suggestions. It never receives your email address or your name, and it is not allowed to train on what you send. Notifications are encrypted, so the company delivering them cannot read them.
Uplift does not sell your information, show ads, or share it with anyone for marketing.
Who can see it
Your data is visible to you. Like the operator of any app, Uplift's operator has technical access to the database it is stored in, and can see who has joined and when they last signed in. Your notes are not read, and no person monitors check ins.
Your choices
- Export: Settings gives you a file with your profile, check ins and notes, the lines and suggestions written for you, your feedback, and the app's notes about you.
- Delete: deleting your account in Settings removes your data immediately and permanently, including your email address. Uplift does not keep backups, so it cannot be recovered by you or by anyone else.
- Change: you can change what you told Uplift about yourself, and turn notifications off, at any time.
Uplift emails you only to send login codes and to reply when you write to it.
Using Uplift fairly
Uplift, including its design, writing, code and the way it works, belongs to its creator. You may use it for your own wellbeing. You may not copy it, scrape it, reverse engineer it, resell access to it, use it to build a competing service, or try to reach anyone else's data or the systems it runs on.
Your account is for you alone. An invite code is for the people it was given to.
Access and changes
Uplift is a free pilot. It may change, pause or end, and access to it may be ended. If Uplift is closing, it will try to give you notice so you can export your data first.
If these terms change in a way that matters, Uplift will ask you to agree again before you carry on.
No guarantees
Uplift is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. It may have errors or be unavailable. To the fullest extent the law allows, Uplift and its creator are not liable for any loss or harm arising from your use of it, including from relying on anything the AI writes or on the safety check.
